Places on offer for the MdS
These places are available for 2010.
We (Facing Africa) have secured additional places on the MdS. Please read the text below and let me know if you are interested in one of the available places. I have had over 200 e-mails from people who were interested in 2008, so if you are interested, please let me know as soon as possible.
First come first served.
In fairness to all those who would like to take part, I will confirm places to applicants on the following basis:-
- A deposit (non-refundable) of £500 as per the Best of Morocco terms and conditions. This amount has already been paid to Best of Morocco in advance in order to secure the places. (I am afraid we can only accept cheques or bank transfer)
- An advance of £1,000 (refundable under certain conditions...see item 4 below) to secure a place.
- Applicants will be expected to raise funds and sponsorship for their efforts in the MdS and we will require an outline of how you intend to raise money for our charity.
- Your fundraising can start immediately and you can start to build up sponsorship and donations. We will keep a record of all donations (cheques, cash, online) made in your name. If you raise a minimum of £5,000 (excluding gift aid), we will refund your £1,000 as soon as you have reached this target.
- Facing Africa does not extend its offer to refund 50% of money raised as per the Best of Morocco web site to any of the appplicants chosen for one of these places.
- Facing Africa will supply the applicants with our leaflets, posters (A3 and A4) and a copy of the CD ROM with images, logos and information on request.
- In the event that you are unable to take part in the Marathon des Sables in 2008, none of your deposit (£500) nor the premium (£1,000) will be refunded. The deposit and premium are not transferrable to another year nor to another person.
- Once you have paid your deposit and premium (payable to "Facing Africa"), the balance of the payments for your entry will need to be made to Best of Morocco as per their booking conditions and within the timescale set out on their website - www.saharamarathon.co.uk).
- Facing Africa will supply you with a T-shirt which you will be required to wear throughout the Marathon des Sables and we will require photos of you wearing the T-shirt during the event which will be used on our promotional material and web site.
- The names of the people representing Facing Africa will have a special area on our web site so that your sponsors and supporters can see the money you have raised and follow your progress during the event.

As you will see from the Best of Morocco MdS web site list of donations, MdS competitors in 2007 have so far raised over £120,000 with 5 individuals already having raised over £5,000 and several others who are likely to exceed this amount.
